Yoga & Meditation for Womxn of Color
Stretch, breathe, and love life in Tacoma
MONTHLY MEDITATION FOR WOMXN OF COLOR | SEPTEMBER DATE TBD | 7:30-8:30 pm
It’s been on my heart for a while to offer meditation for WOC. I believe in the power of meditation, I believe in the mission of uplifting WOC, and now I’ve decided to combine them. Join me and other WOC as we spend time befriending our minds and ourselves at this low-key, beginner friendly event. I started this group in April 2019, and it has been a wonderful experience so far. My intention is to create community for WOC of all ages and levels of experience to practice mindfulness, contemplate philosophy, and listen to their inner wisdom. This event is for self-identifying WOC and non-binary POC.
What to expect: I encourage you to come 5-10 minutes early so we can start promptly. We do introductions and discuss a theme. You are then guided through 25-30 minutes of mindfulness meditation. After the first meditation, we spend time in discussion (Q&A, sharing our experiences, etc.) If time permits, we play with oracle cards followed by a closing meditation before leaving.
Things to bring: Yourself and something to sit on such as a blanket/cushion/yoga mat; water bottle or whatever you need for comfort
Price: Free as a bird, but donations would be appreciated if you wish to give. Here is my PayPal.
Weather Disclaimer: If it’s rainy or too cold, I will try to notify you ASAP on the day of the event.
Yoga is the practice of quieting the mind. (Yoga Sutra 2.1)
I teach from a trauma-informed lens. I am committed to making yoga and meditation accessible to all. Self-compassion over perfection.

What is yoga?: According to the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, compiled around 400 CE, yoga is the practice of quieting the mind. Other translations include: Yoga is the stilling of the mind turnings or Yoga is the turning off of the mind chatter. In the text, Patanjali lays out the 8 limbs of yoga, a pathway toward spiritual liberation. While we will focus on the asana (postures) limb, the other limbs of yoga will be honored in class through the sharing of concepts and themes.
